If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably faced this dilemma.
You get invited to a wedding. Maybe two. Maybe five.
And you think… am I really going to shell out $500+ for a suit I’ll wear once? Or worse — rent a scratchy one that’s been worn by 73 other guys?
That was exactly where I found myself a couple of years ago.
A close friend was getting married and wanted the wedding party to buy tuxedos. He recommended SuitShop.
At first, I was skeptical.
How good could a $200 suit or tuxedo really be? I didn’t want to look like I cut corners.
But I took the plunge. I also grabbed one of their Royal Blue suits — because at the time I didn’t own a proper blue suit, and this was the perfect excuse to add one to my rotation.
When the first wedding rolled around and I stepped into the SuitShop Black Tuxedo, I was shocked. I got more compliments that night than I ever had in a rental — or in any suit I’ve owned.
Here’s what I found (and why I think SuitShop hits a very smart sweet spot).
I visited SuitShop’s Philadelphia showroom (1 of 8 in the U.S.) to get fitted.
They sized me on the spot, made the process easy, and I walked out knowing exactly what to order.
If you’re not near a showroom, their online Fit Finder tool gets rave reviews — and based on my experience, their sizing is dialed in.
When the suits arrived, I was genuinely impressed. They even came in garment bags — something you don’t always see at this price point.
I’ve now worn the SuitShop Black Tuxedo to three different weddings. Here’s how it held up:
And here’s the key: it looked sharp all night — through photos, ceremony, dinner, dancing.
I didn’t overheat. It moved well. No stiff “cardboard suit” feel.
At under $200, this tux easily competes with what you’d pay to rent for one night.
Now, the Brilliant Blue Suit was the real surprise.
This suit pops in a good way. The blue is rich, not flashy. I’ve worn it to a cocktail attire wedding and a few dressier events since.
For me, this suit filled a key gap in my wardrobe. It’s the perfect option when you want to stand out without being over the top.
One thing I didn’t appreciate at first — SuitShop is designed for wedding parties.
If you’re a groom or managing a group, they make it incredibly easy to:
I’ve since recommended it to friends getting married. It takes a lot of hassle out of the process.
For guys who want to look great without overcomplicating it, SuitShop gets the balance right.
It’s what I’ll keep recommending to friends in the same boat I was in.
Quick plug — I always wear an UnderFit undershirt (my own brand) under my tux and suits.
Here’s why:
I designed these undershirts to solve all those problems — they’re soft, breathable, stay tucked, and stay invisible under a dress shirt.
If you’re investing in a great suit, pair it with a proper undershirt. You’ll feel the difference.
Look — SuitShop isn’t the nicest suit you’ll ever buy. And they’re not trying to be.
If you want luxury fabrics or true bespoke tailoring, this isn’t your brand.
But if you want:
…I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
In fact, I was pleasantly surprised. I expected to find the suits “good enough.” Instead, I now reach for my SuitShop tux and blue suit with confidence — and they’ve more than earned their spot in my rotation.
